Devalsari Temple Mussoorie Uttarakhand 

Deep in the heart of old Tehri, before the dam reshaped the landscape, lived a cowherd whose life was filled with a curious mystery. Every day, his cow would return from the forest, not with an empty udder, but with a portion of her milk mysteriously spilled along the way. Puzzled, the cowherd followed the trail of spilled milk, leading him to a hidden Shivalinga nestled amongst the bushes. This Shivalinga, bathed in the cow’s devotion, became a beacon of faith, and soon, the king of Tehri himself ordered a temple to be built around it.

Centuries later, when the Gorkhas swept through Uttarakhand, their destructive path reached this sacred haven. They attempted to uproot the Shivalinga, fueled by their desire to dismantle symbols of faith. But the divine power of the Shiva resisted. Though their blades chipped away a fragment, the Shivalinga remained firmly rooted. The fallen piece, imbued with the temple’s sanctity, found its way to Devalsari, giving birth to the revered Devalsari Mahadev Temple.

Every year, on the auspicious day of Shivratri, the Devalsari temple echoes with the chants of devotees. The gathering transcends religious boundaries, uniting hearts under the shared belief in the unwavering power and grace of Lord Shiva. This tradition, passed down through generations, is a testament to the enduring legacy of the spilled milk, the steadfast Shivalinga, and the unwavering faith that binds them together.
